Unauthorized Signs in the Right of Way
The City of West Lake Hills will be strengthening efforts to enforce the City’s sign ordinance. The sign ordinance has been a key priority for the City and has allowed the City to continue meeting the changing conditions in the City as well as keep pace with changing statutory and legal requirements related to sign regulations in Texas.
Enforcement efforts will focus on signs in the right-of-way. Signs placed in the public rights-of-ways (property adjacent to city streets) are creating blind spots for vehicle traffic, obstructing pedestrians, and causing safety issues for the City. The ordinance, unless specifically required, prohibits these signs. Any sign found violating this ordinance will be declared a “public nuisance” and removed. Violators of the sign ordinance can also be charged with a Class C misdemeanor. The City has the option of storing signs deemed a public nuisance for 7 days before being disposed of without notification or compensation to the sign owner.
For questions about the sign ordinance, or to apply for a sign permit, please contact the City at email@example.com or contact the City at 512-327-3628. The City’s sign ordinance may be located here: West Lake Hills Sign Ordinance – Chapter 32
